The Co-operative Retail Trading Group (CRTG) was set up in 1993 to centralise the buying power for member Co-operative Societies. In 2002 the last 2 Independent Societies applied for membership of the CRTG meaning that, for the first time in its 158 year history, all Co-op food buying is controlled through a single buying point based in Manchester.

CRTG is now the largest, and most successful, buying group in Co-operative history, controlling 100% of Co-op food buying in the UK.

CRTG is a highly disciplined National Buying Group servicing the needs of over 4,000 Food Stores, which are sited in every UK television area.

CRTG operates a comprehensive promotional programme to meet the needs of all of its customers in each of its store formats, from Superstores through to Convenience Store outlets.
